Friends in need…

While relocating to a new country can be exciting, it's also often stressful. Adjusting to a different language or culture can take time. But look around, and you'll find local social and support groups are just a call away...

And a trouble shared

Use AngloINFO to help you to find the contacts you may need. Firstly, browse through the category in The AngloFILE covering Community Life: French Alps, where you'll find the contact information for social and interest groups listed under Clubs & Associations. Or see the Support Groups category to find a helping hand for tougher times.

And if adapting to the move is proving very tough, and you feel you need a bigger helping hand – or care about someone who does – see the category Counselling & Therapy.

One particular social/support group that may be of use to you is the AVF (Accueil des Villes Française), a French organisation established to help newcomers to an area find the information and social integration they may need. There are branches throughout France in most of the larger towns, and you'll almost always find English-speakers in these groups

The AngloINFO Forum provides a very effective way to ask advice, share experiences, and find new friends in the region, in English. See the sections under French Alps Living, where you can start or participate in discussions on family life, animal matters or local media and entertainment.

What else?

To keep up with all the new stuff on AngloINFO is easy - just click here! We've been adding new entries to the AngloFILE just about every day, and there are now over 2,100 listings there!
